Real Sterling Silver Butterfly Wing Pendant, Made in USA
Shown in the Blue Morpho Wing, indigenous to Central & South Americas.
"Bits of the sky that have fallen to the earth" is what some Amazon tribes call the Blue Morpho butterfly -Butterflies of the World. It's wings are covered in tiny bumps that reflect light like prisms, creating the heavenly blue you see. The blue is so stunning it actually startles predators in the wild, giving it time to escape. The reverse side of the wing is also camouglaged, so that it can quietly hide in the rainforest. The Blue Morpho is strongly attracted to the color blue, so if you wave a blue piece of cloth in their environment they will come to you.
These amazing butterflies are transformed by hand into beautiful sterling pendants and earrings by Butterfly Artworks. Rest assured, no butterflies are harmed. They come from tropical butterfly farms within the rain forest and are gathered only after dying naturally. This is a rain forest “sustainable use” activity that helps preserve wild butterfly populations; provides needed income for the farmers; and helps save rain forests by giving them economic viability without being cut down. For 30 years, creators Bob & Ravi Natalini have hand crafted a variety of jewelry and other art works using butterflies and insects. They can be found in personal collections across the country, including those of many celebrities. Don’t wear when swimming/bathing.
Each Butterfly wing is carefully packaged in a beautiful teal jewelry box with the product story, a black suede cord and a free silver polishing cloth for cleaning.
